Field whittled to 25 teams, as three more Pro Class teams scratch

Three more Iron Dog teams scratched over the evening, bringing the total number of race teams still on the trail to 23. Those teams are staged from Galena to Unalakleet with the front runners on their way to Nome as of 9 a.m. Monday.

Team 38, Jeff Stoll and Dan Zimmerman, scratched out after Ruby. Stoll is a rookie from Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Zimmerman a rookie from Nisswa, Minn. Team 16, comprised of rookies Gage Schaack of Cold Bay and Joe Brady from Fairbanks, scratched in Ruby. Team 2, Jacob Dahle and Leah Bauer, scratched in Galena after one of their sled caught fire just outside of that checkpoint. Dahle is a rookie from Morristown, Minn., although not a stranger to the Iron Dog trail. He raced last year and did not finish after an injury ended his race. His teammate, Bauer, from Eau Claire, Wis., also is a rookie although a competitive racer in the Lower 48.
